7″ laptop reviews

Alright everybody, it’s that time again…time to talk about a new type of laptop you might be interested in purchasing: the 7″ laptop, also called mini laptops or netbooks. This has been one of the most popular laptops to come onto the market in years; its popularity is unmatched by people who are constantly on the road for work, need to bring a laptop to class, or just need to keep a low profile. These are typically very basic computers; they do just what they need to do and no more. For most people, however, that’s just exactly what the doctor ordered!

So, let’s get right to it.

The most popular 7″ laptop is the ASUS Eee PC. These have become all the rage within the past couple years, with operating systems available in either Windows, and yes, even Linux for you people who like to tinker with the guts of the OS. The Eee PC in this ultra-small package is available as either the 701SDX or the 701SD, with the 701SDX coming with Linux and a 14GB hard drive. This is more than enough storage for most people; you don’t need much when you don’t play games or listen to much music on it. Most people use this laptop for word processing, email, and internet usage. There’s no need to get fancy. The Eee PC 701SD is the standard Windows model, and actually costs just slightly less than the SDX (the hard drive isn’t as large). The upside of the Linux distribution, however, is that it’s ultra-stable. You won’t get the classic “blue screen of death” with Linux. It’s a very robust operating system perfect for everything from hard-core coding to word processing.

The next 7″ laptop on the list is the Samsung Q1U XP, which is actually a sort of tablet-laptop hybrid. You will notice something a little out of sorts when you click on that link, though. The price is a full $600 more than the ASUS offering, but for good reason. The Q1U is a fully-functional laptop in that it has a full 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and an 800 MHz processor (yes, we know that’s a little light on the power). This is meant for use for people who need a computer that’s ultra portable. Law enforcement may be more than interested in purchasing one of these, don’t you think? They can easily go anyplace you go, but they do have a bit of a price tag problem in our opinion…

Okay everyone, stay tuned next time. Let us know if you have any questions on how to select a 7″ laptop!
