So, what’s great about the Canon PIXMA printer? Simple: It’s wireless. You can bring it anywhere you want and set it up within seconds. You don’t have to worry about setting up complicated wiring systems, plugging in serial ports (do laptops even have those these days?), or doing any crazy hardware configuration. Just plug the printer into a normal power outlet, and there you have it. You’ll connect wirelessly. Now, some of them are probably the type that don’t have their own ethernet system. What you’ll have to do is connect the printer directly to your router. I believe the Canon PIXMA MP560 and MP640 are like this. It’s not that big of a deal, but if you really need to print something out when you don’t have access to a network router, it can be a big deal. Business meetings would be a good example of this. Now, let’s keep in mind that the MP560 and 640 are primarily photo printers. You usually don’t need to have a self-contained ethernet system when all you need to do is print photos.
Doing so is usually not a task that’s extraordinarily important, and just about everyone will be fine not needing the built-in internet functionality. Now, the PIXMA MX860 is a different story. This is an all-in-one printer that’s meant for the office. It’ll print photos, sure, but it’s also designed to do the usual printing of documents. Because this might be something valuable to be able to use everywhere without a hitch, it does come with a built-in ethernet card. You can connect to it wireless anywhere. On the bus ride to work? Print out some business cards. 
Canon printer drivers are also extremely easy to find, so not to worry there. You can just go on their website and download them for all the supporting OSs. Windows and Mac are going to be easily found, but if you run Linux things might be a little more difficult.
